DepEd-Ligao’s Education Program Supervisor Ms. Delia V. Mendoza is one of the 12 winners of the Saceda Youth Lead (SYL) 2016 Most Inspiring Teachers of the Philippines during the awarding ceremony on February 24, 2016 at SYL Center, Candau-ay, Dumaguete City.

Among the 28 nominated teachers in the country, Ms. Mendoza is one of the 12 finalists who were invited to attend a workshop at Dumaguete City. She was awarded with a plaque of recognition, Presidential Medal from Hon. JP Penol of the NYC, Insurance worth Php 100,000 from Sunlife of Canada, full scholarship, and an award travel to Brunei Darussalam in April and Spain in July.

DepEd Sec. Luistro visits Ligao LGU-funded school buildings

Before proceeding to the Department of Education (DepEd) Grand Summit at Albay Astrodome, DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro visited some of the LGU-funded school buildings in Ligao City on 14 July 2015. Accompanied by Congressman Fernando V. Gonzalez, Ligao City Mayor Patricia Gonzalez-Alsua, Regional Director Ramon Fiel Abcede of Deped Region V, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Ma. Luisa P. Samaniego, together with the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Sec. Luistro went to Ligao National High School, DepEd City Division Office, and Ligao East Central School to check on the state-of-the-art facilities.

As Sec. Luistro tours around the Ligao National High School campus, Congressman Fernando V. Gonzalez explains the developments that were made in the campus. LNHS' Principal Mrs. Carmelita A. Sinson also shared the plan to replace old facilities in the school.

Sec. Luistro was also impressed by the reports presented by the local government regarding the budget allocation for the construction of the school facilities. He was surprised to know that school buildings were constructed at lower costs without compromising the quality and design of the facilities. One of the projects that were showcased includes the recently completed school buildings for the Ligao Community College which only cost 23 million pesos. Congressman Gonzalez also suggested to Sec. Luistro the construction of two-storey school buildings to maximize the use of school sites.

City turns over 2-storey building to Ligao East Central School

The City Government of Ligao turned over the newly constructed two-storey building to Ligao East Central School.

The City Government of Ligao turned over the two-storey building with 12 classrooms to Ligao East Central School (LECS) on June 6, 2014. Lead by City Mayor Patricia Gonzalez-Alsua and Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Evangeline P. Palencia, the symbolic key was turned over to LECS Principal Alex M. Alano.

The construction of the two-storey building began during the administration of former Ligao City Mayor Linda P. Gonzalez. According to her, the vertical construction of the two-storey school facility was the best strategy they could have since LECS has very limited space.

Congressman Fernando V. Gonzalez also congratulated the City Government of Ligao for having the project accomplished. The cityhood of Ligao paved the way to many opportunities including higher budget allocation to the local government, according to Congressman Gonzalez. This also gave way to many opportunities for facility improvements and government projects including the replacement of old and obsolete classrooms.

Dr. Palencia also extended her commitment to work hard to maintain the good standing of Ligao City. She also mentioned that Ligao City is getting high results in the National Achievement Test (NAT) and it has gathered the most gold medals among other divisions in Region V during the Palarong Pambansa.

Beside the two-storey building is an on-going construction of additional ten classrooms for the school. Each classroom has a capacity of at least 25-35 students.
