Ligao Community College students among the TOSB awardees

Four students from Ligao Community College (LCC) were among the Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol (TOSB) for this year’s search. Bachelor of Secondary Education students Norman P. Manlangit, Angel DL.Parado, Jiesel Ll. Pesito, and Darwin Racadag were recognized during the awarding ceremony on March 4, 2016 at the Social Hall, University of Nueva Caceres, Naga City, Camarines Sur.

Also from LCC are TOSB finalists, Chenel O. Rosopa and Judy Mae C. Navera. Parado received the Top Initiative on Bicolano Advocacies by the Youth (TIBAY-TOSB 2016) award for her proposal, School Based Waste Segregation and Management. Rosopa, on the other hand, received the Most Promising Youth-Led Proposal award.

Organized by the Ako Bicol Partylist in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education, TOSB was organized to recognize Bicol students with exemplary academic performance. College students aged 18-25 years old ,has a General Weighted average of 1.75, and good leadership, service, and scholarship performance are qualified for the search. The Ligao Community College (LCC) is now occupying a new campus at Guilid, Ligao City with newly completed 26 classrooms. With an allocated fund of only 23 million pesos, the state-of-the-art facility is complete with air-conditioned rooms, ceiling fans, laboratories, rest rooms, and a separate building for the Administration. Each classroom has a capacity of 45 students.

Previously, LCC holds its night classes at Ligao National High School. With its new facilities, LCC students now occupies the new LCC grounds.

The establishment of the LCC campus is anchored in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 32 which includes guidelines on the establishment of local colleges.

Ligao City to start construction of Ligao Community College campus

To continuously provide quality education to Ligaoeños, the Ligao Community College (LiComCo) will now have its own campus at Soledad St., Guilid, Ligao City. The construction of the new facility is expected to start this January and is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

"As of the moment, Ligao Community College is sharing the facilities with Ligao National High School, we really would like the Ligao Community College to have something for them," said Ligao City Mayor Patricia Gonzalez-Alsua. LiComCo holds its classes in the evening as LNHS holds its classes during the day. With the expected facilities that go along with the construction, students can maximize the use of the facilities for a better learning experience. "We would like them to have available facilities for them to have high quality education," Mayor Alsua added. The LiComCo is known to have the highest number of Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) passers in Region V (Bicol), according to Mrs. Carmelita A. Sinson, College Administrator of LiComCo.

Mrs. Carmelita A. Sinson, College also said that the separation of LiComCo from LNHS is in accordance to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 32 which includes guidelines on the establishment of local colleges. The establishment of the campus is supported by Congressman Fernando V. Gonzalez.

Two two-storey buildings will be constructed in a 3000-square meter area, one for the Administration and one where classes will be held, according to Engineer Shieldon T. Capulong, City Engineer of Ligao. There will be 26 classrooms with a capacity of 45 students per classroom. Twenty three million pesos (Php 23,000,000) will be allocated for the construction of the school building.
